Sofia for Nabil Nayal

Elizabethan techniques mixed with modern sportswear silhouettes certainly makes for an interesting aesthetic. Stiff bonded pleat collars and decadent sleeves are famed indicators of the Elizabethan era, but Nabil El-Nayal integrates them with oversized features in smart fabrics in his collections.

Syrian born Nabil El-Nayal has been on the radar of fashion editors since he won the the Graduate Fashion Week womenswear award in 2008. Nabil secured BFC funding to complete his MA, after completing his degree right here in Manchester, where he is now working on his PhD at MMU.
After being named as a finalist for the fashion fringe award in 2011, Nabil went on to be shortlisted for the LVMH prize which earned him a spot at Paris Fashion Week 2015. It was there that Karl Lagerfeld praised his work and even purchased one of the designer's shirts, cementing Nabil's place on the fashion design map.

BOSS model Sofia wore the stunning designs for Nayal's SS17 look book, with minimal styling and a warehouse set.  In the collection, Nayal shows more layers of pleats and ruffles, this time in a monochrome pallet with square necklines and dropped wrist sleeves.
